Violinist Edvin Marton’s Stradivarius Show with Brilliant Lecture Series

-->

Brilliant Lecture Series presents the internationally acclaimed violinist and classical crossover composer, Edvin Marton! He will be performing his Stradivarius Show for the first time in the United States at the Brown Theater, Wortham Center at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 20.

Marton is a violin prodigy born in Ukraine in 1974.  He honed his musical style and sensibility at The Juilliard School of Music, where he was exposed to various musical styles and perfected his classical crossover by mingling with DJs and other musicians performing modern music.

After graduation, he entered a competition at the Orford Arts Center in Canada where he won the opportunity to play Niccolo Paganini’s Stradivarius, now on loan to him for life. It is one of eight Stradivarius violins in playable condition in the world.  Stradivarius instruments – those originating from the workshop of luthier Antonio Stradivari, are known for their superior sound quality, rarity and sell for millions of U.S. dollars.

With the birth of his professional career, Edvin Marton became the first Hungarian to receive an Emmy Award for Best Composition for “Tosca Fantasy.”  In 2008, Marton was the first classical artist to win an MTV music award for collaborating with Russian singer and close friend, Dima Bilan, on the song “Believe.”

Now a household name in the music world, Edvin travels internationally to perform with his beloved friends who are Olympic ice skaters, world-renowned singers and crossover classical artists.  He is currently on tour in Asia and preparing for his U.S. debut, right here in Houston Texas.  He will perform on September 20, 2013 at 7:30, live, inside Houston’s Wortham Theater Center!

On July 3 at 8:30 p.m. Miller Outdoor Theatre presents 2012 hit film “The Amazing Spiderman”. District D Councilmember Wanda Adams and Majic 102FM will be in attendance. There will be games before the movie at 8 p.m.

“That’s Entertainment!” (1974) will be presented on July 23 at 8:30 p.m. A nostalgic collection of scenes from nearly 100 musical films! Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Liza Minnelli, Mickey Rooney and many more present highlights from MGM Studio’s golden age.

“Shall We Dance?” (1937) will be presented July 24 at 8:30 p.m. This film features Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in their gladdest show, with music by George Gershwin. A rumor sparks a romance – a ballet star (Astaire) crosses the Atlantic on the same ship as the dancer he’s fallen for but hardly knows (Rogers.) Their interactions cause a stir on the ship and a false rumor forces the two together.

Miller Outdoor Theatre will present Asleep at the Wheel: On Screen and On Stage on July 5 at 8:30 p.m. The “post-modern kings of western swing” roll into Miller with a documentary film of their over forty-year history and a full concert of fan favorites.
